Composition Class Blog Concerning the Vice Pres

Of course, I am sure everyone knows that Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunting partner last weekend. What you might not know if you do not follow politics closely (or, at least, the all-day news channels that report on them) is the controversy that surrounds this situation. The fact that the Vice-President accidentally shot someone has not been the gossiped-about issue. This, of course, was immediately chalked up to being an accident and, in many cases, has had a humorous spin placed upon it. However, the issue that has some people up in arms is the fact that the government did not immediately report the incident. In fact, the government did not report the incident at all. It was brought to the attention of the general public nearly twenty hours after the shooting by a civilian.

If you have been paying any attention to channels like CNN, MSNBC or even Comedy Central, you are aware that it is this particular issue of the failure in reporting that has pundits up in arms. In fact, when White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan first spoke on the issue of the shooting, he was inundated by questions concerning why the incident wasn’t promptly reported and whether it was morally correct that a civilian ended up blowing the whistle on the issue before the government came forward. The majority of these questions were brought forth by reporters who, by all accounts, have political biases that sit on the left side of the scale. These liberal reporters and the left-wing agencies that they report for will have you believe that this misstep in reporting is a controversy of monumental proportions.

By my assessment of the situation though, there is only one flaw in this theory: Nobody cares!!! While I do not have the ability (or, better, the desire) to conduct any type of scientific poll of the American populace, I feel that I can speak on their general behalf when I say that nobody is that concerned about when and who reported the incident. We feel it was a tragic and accidental event. While embarrassing and unfortunate, this isn’t the political quagmire that the liberal media would have you believe. This type of reporting is just another example of the media telling us what is and what is not a story. This type of manipulation takes place all the time. Only this time, the practice is completely transparent. And, for this single moment, I am going to use my power to decide what I think is news worthy and the leftist angle taken on this incident just isn’t.
